| I was chatting to one of my friends over the weekend and she mentioned that in past census' she's always had to check the "other" box because "Asian" or "Korean" wasn't listed on the form. Since her husband is African American, I asked how her children fill out forms that request a race, and her young daughter told me that she checks either African American or Asian - depending on her mood that particular day.
Now, I am told that in this year's census you can check multiple boxes, which is helpful for those who are of mixed race. But it did get me wondering. I've completed many forms and always check either "white" or "caucasian", but as I thought about it over the weekend I wondered - In an American survey, is "white" or "caucasian" really accurate when they will look at that data and say, "we have [insert percentage] white Americans who said XYZ"?
Well, yes, on the outside I do appear to be white, but culturally and ethnically, I'm not American.
I also noticed that in this year's census they have split up the Asian section so you can check a box if you're Vietnamese, Chinese, Japanese, etc.
But what if you're "white" but you're Dutch, South African, Romanian, Australian, or something else?
Should I check "other" this year?

| Well it's been a fair while since I uploaded photos to my flickr account, and finally yesterday, I got off my butt and started posting some up. I have more to come, but at least for now, here's a sampling of some things we did in June/July.
Jesse's Birthday - Wii Cake We made really yummy chili that I served up in Gazpacho bowls that Karina gave us for our engagement. After John and Rachael's wedding, we spent the weekend in Lynchberg. We randomly stumbled across these people all dressed in period costumes. Ka-Loon spoke with one of them to find out what was going on - turns out they were filming a documentary about Lynchberg. And on our way back from Lynchberg, we stopped at Smokie Joe's Cafe in Warrenton for crazy good bbq - this is Joe w/ Ka-Loon. For July 4th weekend, me, Ka-Loon, Tim, Talida, Ron, and Jennifer all went to Newport, Rhode Island. We had a great time! And after Newport, we spent a day hanging around Boston. Here's a building at MIT. More pictures from all of these events are on my flickr - June Photos, July Photos.

| A couple of months ago, I began blogging for BigFatCake.com, a wedding planning website and blog. I'm mainly sharing DIY tips, as well as other creative ideas from mine and other weddings. If you're in the market to be wed, I'd love you to check it out (I love getting comments ). I regularly post something on Monday morning

| Jen and Dan got married at Oxon Hill, MD in May. I actually coordinated their wedding on the day, and helped out with various creative pieces leading up to it! The wedding was absolutely gorgeous! Since I was running around so much, I hardly took any photos, but there are some here: Photo Album.

| In June, we attended John and Rachel's wedding in Lynchberg, VA. It was in a gorgeous old manor house and it was super hot outside! We all had lots of fun, chilaxing on the porch - so southern . Photo Album.
